Amat addition kickstarts Raiders’ off-season

Acquired - Head coach Ben Hagerman joins new acquisition Luc Amat after his recent signing with the Napanee Raiders. The right winger is coming off a 50-point campaign with the Picton Pirates and he is known for playing a tenacious brand of hockey.

A 50-point winger who plays with an edge will call Napanee’s Best and Bash Arena home again when the PJHL season opens this fall.

In advance of his overage season, the Napanee Raiders have acquired Roblin native Luc Amat from the Picton Pirates for cash considerations, the club announced today.

The 20-year-old is fresh off his best junior campaign, posting 21 goals and 29 assists while being named to the Tod Division all-star team as a third-year Pirate. He followed that up by leading his club with 15 points in 10 playoff games.

Back at home – Luc Amat returns to the home bench in Napanee this year for his final junior campaign.

Prior to his junior career, Amat started his minor hockey in the Stone Mills Sabres program before becoming a leading contributor for the Napanee Stars with his minor hockey career culminating in a trip to the OMHA U18 championships in 2023.

Amat says he’s excited to be back on the home side.

“Coming home to Napanee for my final year means a lot,” he said. “It’s a chance to play in front of family, friends and a community that helped me develop both as a player and as a person. I’m excited to represent my hometown and make the most of my last junior season.”

He describes himself as a hardworking, reliable player who will compete each shift.

“I take pride in playing a two-way game, being a good teammate and doing whatever I can to help the team succeed,” Amat said. “I hope to bring leadership, a strong work ethic and a positive attitude every day.”

Already well connected with his new teammates, he acknowledges expectations are high and he welcomes the opportunity to strive for lofty goals.

“As a team, the goal is to compete for a championship and build a winning culture throughout the season. Individually, I want to continue improving every day, be a consistent contributor, and help the team win as many games as possible.”

Off the ice, Amat is a third-year plumbing apprentice. He enjoys staying active in other sports like golf, fishing, motocross, and baseball.

Head coach Ben Hagerman welcomed the transaction.

“Luc is a player that all teams need and want. Goals and assists are only one part of his game. His relentlessness on the backcheck and the forecheck is likely the best part of his game. I also believe he is one of the best penalty killers in the Tod Division,” said Hagerman. “Above all of that, he is a tremendous person and someone that Raider fans are going to be thrilled to watch this season.”
